About Your Therapist
Sitting with clients in their time of struggle or pain is what I have always wanted to do. Having helped people with their physical health for 23 years as a Diagnostic Radiographer I pursued my dream of helping people with their mental health by retraining as a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist. Working within the hospital environment and meeting colleagues, patients and their relatives at differing times in their lives meant I saw first hand the need for and benefits of Counselling and Hypnotherapy in a multitude of situations. It is an honour and a privilege to do the work I do, to accompany clients on their journey of self understanding and change.
Training as a therapist involved having my own therapy. This gave me an understanding of what it is like to look for the right therapist and the importance of finding the right one. It also gave me an understanding of the work done in and out of therapy sessions and the ripple effect on those around you. Support is very important while you undertake therapy. My aim is to support and enable you to meet whatever challenge you set yourself in therapy.
I use my counselling and or hypnotherapy skills to to tailor sessions according to your needs. Providing a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental environment, allows you the opportunity to explore and work through whatever is troubling you, at your pace.
My client work has involved; anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression, fears and phobias, grief, insomnia, relationship issues, stress and smoking cessation and terminal illness. I also offer my services, as a volunteer, to a local Hospice providing Counselling to patients, carers and the bereaved. Loss is often hidden or goes unrecognised and the emotions can be left unacknowledged and unexpressed. Loss is not only associated with death and bereavement but with other situations like losing a job, loss of health or finances, loss of a friendship or relationship. Loss of home or moving to another country. You may be feeling lost or alone. You may find it difficult to express your emotions or not even know what they are. You may have been conditioned not to feel. Seeking therapy may be very challenging for you in many ways but change is possible. Where there is the desire and motivation to change, it can happen.
My commitment to you is to provide the best service I possibly can. I do this by working professionally and ethically, by attending regular Supervision, continuing my professional development through training, reading and peer review, holding accredited membership of both The National Hypnotherapy Society and The National Counselling Society and working according to their code of ethics. I am insured and registered with The Information Comissioners Office (ICO).
